Hi, I'm Chris Hyland

I try to make the world a bit better using data science. Currently I'm working in the UK Civil Service.

About me

I'm a Senior Data Scientist at the Department for Work and Pensions, where I deploy machine learning models on real-time data. With experience in software engineering and user-centred design from my time on the Civil Service Fast Stream, I'm also building AI-powered full-stack web applications that solve real problems.

Outside work, I create films as Blue Coat Productions and work on personal digital projects, including publicsectorgradschemes.co.uk.

I studied Economics at the University of Nottingham, focusing on statistical and causal analysis. During my degree, I led a food waste social enterprise through COVID-19. Having built a panel dataset to study charity governance, I've since completed the UK Boardroom Apprentice scheme and am seeking the right charity trustee opportunity.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking with Geobar Expeditions, maintaining geocaches, and following Eurovision very enthusiastically.
